A Sample Journey

7 Nights, 8 Days: the classic loop, done properly.

Luxury category throughout, with a private SLTDA licensed national guide and chauffeur for the entire trip. This is one way to see the island end to end. Tap a day to see how it runs.

Welcomed by your guide with sea shell garlands on arrival, then transferred to a luxury stay in Negombo, on a half board basis (dinner and breakfast).

After breakfast, transfer to a luxury stay near Dambulla / Sigiriya. In the evening, a 4x4 jeep safari through Habarana Eco Park or Minneriya National Park. Overnight on a half board basis.

An early climb up Sigiriya rock to watch the sunrise, back to the hotel for breakfast. Then a village tour by bullock cart and lake boat ride, a Sri Lankan cookery demonstration, and lunch at a traditional chena farm, cleared by the island's traditional slash and burn method, surrounded by birdlife. In the afternoon, on to Polonnaruwa, the island's second ancient capital, before returning to the hotel for the night.

After breakfast, travel to Kandy for a traditional cultural dance show and a walking tour of the city. Check in to a luxury stay on a half board basis.

Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, then continue to Nuwara Eliya through tea plantations and lush green scenery. Tour a working tea factory and walk through the town's buildings from the colonial era. Overnight at a luxury stay on a half board basis.

Depart for Ella via one of the great train rides on earth, roughly three hours from Nanu Oya to Ella through green hills and tunnels, in a reserved first or second class seat with air conditioning where available, with your guide waiting at Ella station. On the drive back, stop at Ravana Falls, the island's fourth highest waterfall. Check in to a luxury stay on a half board basis.

An early departure for Yala National Park, with a picnic breakfast and a four hour 4x4 jeep safari. Back at the hotel, then on toward Galle, with stops at a turtle hatchery and the Galle Dutch Fort. Overnight at a luxury stay in Unawatuna on a half board basis.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport, or drop off in Negombo. Time permitting, a two hour boat ride on the Maduganga River at Balapitiya on the way.
